A Culinary Herbinar

Many herbs are practically no-maintenance and grow year-round, even in sub-zero and desert-dry conditions, yet the flavor and nutrition they add turns even the most humble meal into a gourmet delight.

Elise Cooke will be offering two different three-hour seminars to learn more about about how to grow, maintain, preserve and dry culinary herbs. The class includes everything you need to get started right away: seeds, recipes, notes and other useful information.

Seminar dates are Thursday, April 22 and Saturday, May 22.

Click here to browse for the class and register.

Hope to see you there!

Springtime is Finally Here!

We here at the Simpleton Solutions Headquarters (okay, my house) harvested our first artichoke the other day; we're also enjoying snap peas, spinach, chard, oranges, lemons, lettuce and green onions.

The tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, carrots, garlic, cucumbers, beets, broccoli, squash, corn, eggplants, melons, grapes and more are all growing and showing promise. The chickens are in full-egg swing, too, just in time to dye their bounty.

Think of your backyard as a food bank, and make a deposit.  You won't be sorry!

What Is a Skinflint, Anyway?

It's just another insulting description of a frugal person, like niggard (no, it's not racist!), tightwad, miser, piker...

According to several sources, the term "skinflint" originates around the year 1700, during the time when fires were started with flint. A skinflint was so cheap, he'd use the tiniest sliver of the sparking rock to get his kindling going.

Just remember, "sticks and stones may break our bones, but wealth will never hurt us."  So there.

MMCover It's Coming!! It's Coming!!

The third book of the Simpleton Solutions Series is nearly here, to answer the question: How do some people consistently live below their means, seemingly without effort?

Hint:  They have a wealth-building way of thinking.

The Miserly Mind, 121/2 Secrets of the Freakishly Frugal explores the Tightwad thought process, revealing in discreet steps what makes misers tick, and how the rest of us can benefit by coming around to their way of looking at:
  • Purchases
  • Ownership
  • Experimentation
  • Success
  • Goals

and much, much more!  Of course, it's loaded with all the anecdotes and pithy asides readers have come to expect alongside all that useful information from Simpleton Solutions books.

The Miserly Mind, 12 1/2 Secrets of the Freakishly Frugal will be available in the next month or so.  Click on the cover art for more information, excerpts and availability updates.  Of course, as loyal readers of The Simpleton Skinflint, check in next month's newsletter for discount offers!

What to Enjoy in April

Be on the lookout for falling prices on:

  • Strawberries
  • Stone fruits, like peaches and nectarines
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Snap peas
  • Artichokes

How nice it will be to dial back a bit on those hearty soups that have been sustaining us all winter long and start enjoying more fresh fruit and stirfries.  Mmmmm!

jeans 2What Else to Enjoy in April
